Personality
A four-armed warrior with an ice-blue exoskeleton. He is upright, values honor and bushido, and speaks in a stiff, katakana-like cadence. The most straightforward of the Guardians, he respects brave enemies. Privately he often fantasizes about serving as bodyguard to Ainz's heir, the "young master," and revels in being called "Grandpa."

- With four weapon-wielding arms, his armed attack power is the highest in Nazarick (third in the Guardians' ranking; "strongest in weapon combat"), and he can use 21 kinds of weapons
- Wields the Divine-class tachi Imperial Sword Zanshin (originally the weapon of his creator, Warrior Takemikazuchi), the silver halberd Decapitation Fang, and more
- Cold-type skills such as Frost Aura, Frost Breath, and Smite Frost Burn, plus complete cold immunity
- Skills such as Acalanātha Strike and Kulika Blade; because his exoskeleton counts as armor, he cannot equip armor, so his defense is relatively weak against opponents of equal level
History
- Created by Warrior Takemikazuchi; guards the glacial 5th Floor (Vol. 1)
- Ordered to lead an army of low-tier undead against the Lizardmen, he was defeated; from this he learned to discern his master's true intentions and raised his first objection: "rule them rather than exterminate them" (Vol. 4)
- In the second attack he faced Zaryusu and the other Lizardman champions alone, gave them a chance to choose death anew, and defeated them all (Vol. 4)
- Ordered to rule the Lizardmen without relying on terror; later also subjugated the Toadmen north of the lake (Vol. 4 onward)
- While interrogating Sebas at his mansion in the Royal Capital, he blocked the blow Sebas had been ordered to strike to kill Tuare (Vol. 6)
- After the Sorcerer Kingdom was founded, he managed and trained its army (Vol. 9 onward); in the battle for the Royal Capital in Vol. 14, he cut Brain down with a single stroke
Trivia
Ainz has asked him for instruction in a warrior's body mechanics and martial arts (stated explicitly in Vol. 15; the situation around Vol. 13 and in Vol. 16 is unverified). Apart from kanji, his lines are written entirely in katakana, because his voice is "blocks of sound forced into a human voice."

- Warrior Takemikazuchi: His creator in the published novels, who left him weapons such as the Imperial Sword Zanshin
- Ainz Ooal Gown: His absolute lord; Ainz learns a warrior's body mechanics from himunverified
- Demiurge: His close friend and drinking companion at the Assistant Head Chef's bar; Cocytus admires his cunning
- Narberal Gamma: Their creators were close, and when the two are alone together they are surprisingly at ease
- Zaryusu Shasha: A Lizardman who showed a warrior's radiance; Cocytus thinks highly of him. Later revived by Ainz
- Brain Unglaus: In Vol. 14 he respected Brain's resolve and cut him down with a single stroke, then ordered the Frost Virgins to preserve the body in ice
- Albedo: One of the opponents he would like to fight in earnest (favorable matchup)
