Characters
Brain Unglaus
ブレイン・アングラウス
"Seeker of the Martial Arts"; genius swordsman, later a soldier under RennerRe-Estize KingdomHumanUnknown (in Vol. 14 Cocytus judged his final strike to be at about the Lv40 mark)
Personality
He was once a man who would throw away everything to reach the pinnacle of the sword: arrogant, conceited, and unscrupulous. Utterly crushed by Shalltear, he lost the will to live for a time, but Sebas and Climb showed him what it means to fight for others, and he became a man who values loyalty and cherishes his comrades.
Abilities
- His innate talent, "increased concentration capacity," lets him carry more martial arts at once
- Original martial arts [Field], [Instantaneous Flash], and [God Flash]; the compound martial art [Secret Sword: Wind of the Great Forest]; and his strongest secret swords, [Nail Clipper] and [True Nail Clipper]
- In Vol. 14, with the help of Gazef's master Vesture, he learned [Sixfold Slash of Light] (though not the ultimate martial art), stepped into the Realm of Heroes, and surpassed Gazef
- Uses a katana (a "divine katana") and wears the Necklace of Eye and the Ring of Magicbound
History
- Born a farmer, he was invincible thanks to his talent with the sword until he lost to Gazef in the royal tournament. He then joined the "Death Spreading Brigade" to hone his skills for revenge (background)
- When Shalltear attacked the band's hideout, he gave it everything he had, could not even scratch her nail, and fled in tears (Vol. 3)
- Drifting to the Royal Capital, he was taken in by Gazef, found his footing again after meeting Sebas and Climb, and raided the Eight Fingers' brothel with them (Vol. 5). During the unrest in the capital he knocked off Shalltear's little-finger nail with [Nail Clipper], and Renner later hired him as a soldier (mentioned in Vol. 9)
- Witnessed Gazef's death on the Katze Plains. Afterward he took in talented orphans in the Royal Capital and taught them swordsmanship (Vols. 9–10, 14)
- When the Royal Capital was besieged, he bade farewell to Blue Roses, Renner, and Climb, entrusted Razor Edge to Climb so that the princess could return it to the king, and set out alone to challenge the Sorcerer King. On the way he faced Cocytus, met him with a [True Nail Clipper] that surpassed his limits, and died. Cocytus took his katana, and the Frost Virgins preserved his body in ice (Vol. 14)
