Vampire
吸血鬼（ヴァンパイア）
Races & CreaturesMajor Races
A type of undead; in YGGDRASIL it is a front-line (warrior-type) race that can create absolutely obedient lesser thralls by drinking blood.
- Main traits: creating lesser kin by drinking blood, charming magic eyes, high regeneration, damage reduction against weapons that are neither silver nor magic, and stat penalties in sunlight.
- The number of lesser vampires that can be created by drinking blood is capped, and those created cannot make servants of their own the same way.
- It is not a race for magic casters; a magic-focused character who picks it loses combat strength.
- The legendary traits ("turns to ash in sunlight, fears water, has no reflection, cannot enter uninvited, needs blood to live, fears garlic, and dies instantly when staked through the heart") do not apply at all; blood is merely a delicacy. However, poisons made alchemically from garlic and the like do work on Shalltear.
- Lesser kin: Lesser Vampires (mummy-like, with little capacity for thought) and Vampire Brides; summoned thralls: Vampire Wolves (level 7), Ancient Vampire Bats, and Vampire Bat Swarms.
- Evileye (Keno) is also a vampire, known as "Landfall."
- The side story The Vampire Princess of the Lost Country states that in sunlight "all actions are penalized"; Shalltear cannot eat food
- Vampires are weak to silver, as are werewolves, wererats, and others who have turned bestial (Vol. 3 p. 132, Vol. 2 p. 252, Vol. 12 p. 41); adventurers often use "alchemical silver" coatings made by alchemists to temporarily give weapons the effect of silver (Vol. 3 p. 126)
- Vampire Wolves track better than other thralls (Vol. 3 p. 139); Vampire Brides first appear at Vol. 3 p. 31; Lesser Vampires keep their memories from life but think and fight poorly (Vol. 3 p. 69)
Notes
In YGGDRASIL, vampires look like monsters with split mouths; Shalltear's usual beauty is owed entirely to the guild members' skillful concept art and modeling.
