Characters
Ainz Ooal Gown
アインズ・ウール・ゴウン
Master of Nazarick, Sorcerer KingGreat Tomb of NazarickHeteromorphic · Undead (Overlord)Total Lv100
Personality
At heart he is Suzuki Satoru, an ordinary office worker. Since he became undead, his emotions have been forcibly suppressed, leaving him calm, even cold, and with almost no empathy for humans. He is cautious and suspicious and values intelligence and preparation. He often panics inwardly at his Guardians' "over-interpretations," yet he strives to play the perfect ruler, and he deeply treasures everything his former guildmates left behind.
Abilities
- Knows 718 spells (far beyond the usual cap of 300); specializes in instant-death and necromantic magic and can cast 10th-tier spells such as [Time Stop] and [Reality Slash]
- Casts super-tier magic such as [Iä Shub-Niggurath] and [Wish Upon a Star]; combined with the Eclipse class skill "The Goal of All Life Is Death," his instant-death magic ignores instant-death immunity
- Can create large numbers of middle- and high-tier undead every day; in the New World, undead summoned using corpses as a medium never disappear
- [Perfect Warrior] converts his caster levels into warrior ability; otherwise he has only the physical stats of roughly a Lv33 warrior, which is what he normally relies on as "Momon, the Dark Hero"
- Equipped with Divine-class gear, the Staff of Ainz Ooal Gown, and a World Item (Momonga's Red Orb)
History
- On the night YGGDRASIL shut down, guildmaster Momonga was transported to another world along with Nazarick, and renamed himself Ainz Ooal Gown so that his scattered comrades would learn of his existence (Vol. 1)
- Operated as the adventurer Momon; after Shalltear was brainwashed by a World Item, he defeated her with his own hands and revived her (Vols. 2–3)
- Slaughtered the Kingdom army on the Katze Plains with super-tier magic, forced the cession of E-Rantel, and founded the Sorcerer Kingdom as its Sorcerer King (Vol. 9)
- Reformed the Adventurer's Guild, led an expedition to the Dwarf Kingdom, and subjugated the Frost Dragons (Vols. 10–11); intervened in the Roble Holy Kingdom's war and staged his own "defeat" and disappearance at the hands of the Demon Emperor (Vols. 12–13)
- Launched a war of annihilation against the Re-Estize Kingdom (Vol. 14); later took Aura and Mare on a "vacation" to the Elf Country and routed the Elf King Decem Hougan, who fled and was killed by the Extra Seat (Zesshi Zetsumei); Mare gave chase and defeated and captured the Extra Seat (Vols. 15–16)
Trivia
He rehearses a ruler's lines and posture in front of the mirror every day so as not to give himself away; "How noisy. Be quiet." (騒々しい、静かにせよ) is one result of that practice.
Relationships
- Touch Me: Saved him from PKers who were hunting him, which led to the "First Nine" and later the guild
- Albedo: He changed her settings to "in love with Momonga" before the shutdown and has felt guilty about it ever since
- Pandora's Actor: The NPC he created himself; his "walking dark history," but also a reliable body double and "son"
- Demiurge: His most trusted strategist; the "world conquest" misunderstanding began with him
- Shalltear Bloodfallen: Defeated her with his own hands after she was brainwashed, then revived her
- Gazef Stronoff: Admired how Gazef protected others; killed him in a duel on the Katze Plains using [Time Stop]
- Jircniv Rune Farlord El-Nix: Studies him as a model ruler (in the Web novel Ainz thinks of him as a friend)
- Fluder Paradyne: A fanatic he won over with the depths of magic
- Gondo Firebeard: A dwarven runesmith who opened the way into the Dwarf Kingdom for him
- Neia Baraja: The girl with frightening eyes; the first friend CZ made in the outside world
- Zanac Valleon Igana Ryle Vaiself: His counterpart in the talks outside the Royal Capital; Ainz judged him a man of considerable nerve
- Renner Theiere Chardelon Ryle Vaiself: A "madwoman" whose intellect rivals Albedo's and Demiurge's; welcomed into Nazarick after the Kingdom fell
- Decem Hougan: Fought him in Vol. 16 and routed him with bluff and technique; the king fled and was then killed by the Extra Seat
- Antilene Heran Fouche (Zesshi Zetsumei): A Black Scripture member captured by Mare; from her memories he learned that the Slane Theocracy was behind Shalltear's brainwashing
