Assault on the Elven Capital
エルフの王都攻略戦
World & HistoryBattles & Events
Vol. 16, sometime in Years 3–5 after the transfer (shortly after the Kingdom's fall): after a long siege of the outskirts of the elven capital on the shore of Crescent Lake, the Slane Theocracy's army launched an all-out assault and broke into the capital; at the same time, Ainz's party slipped into the royal castle and seized its treasury.
- The Theocracy army, commanded by Valerian Ein Obinie, was camped on the outskirts of the capital; after repeated elven night raids, at a meeting at dawn a few hours later, Valerian ordered a switch to the offensive, since reinforcements from home had arrived
- The elves' outer defenses collapsed, and Theocracy soldiers stormed the city; the Theocracy army was ordered not to enter the royal castle but only to surround it and watch from a distance
- Before this, Ainz had stayed in the dark elf village disguised as the dark elf "Ain Bell Fior"; when an elf envoy came demanding troops, Ainz's proposal won the whole village's approval
- About a week later, Ainz grew suspicious of the Theocracy army's tactics; he then slipped into the royal castle with Aura and Mare, timing it with the Theocracy's offensive, and made for the treasury
- Ainz fought Elf King Decem on the floor below the treasury, and Decem fled; the Extra Seat Antilene slipped into the castle and killed Decem twice, then fought the pursuing Mare and was captured
- The treasury's contents were dumped onto Nazarick's surface through [Gate]; Antilene was imprisoned in the Frozen Prison, and Pandora's Actor was ordered to recover the items Decem had carried
- From Antilene's memories, Ainz learned that Shalltear's brainwashing was the Theocracy's doing; he summoned Albedo and resolved to destroy the Slane Theocracy
- The Theocracy's Supreme Executive Council wanted to take the elven capital intact as a refuge for its people in a future conflict with the Sorcerer Kingdom, and so it banned fire attacks and siege engines (unverified)
Notes
A note in the Japanese sources' timeline: the Theocracy army was ordered not to enter the royal castle but to surround it and watch from afar (Vol. 16 p. 202, 253, 256).
