Characters

Remedios Custodio

レメディオス・カストディオ

Captain of the Paladin Order; "White" of the Nine Colors; commander of the Holy Kingdom Liberation ArmyRoble Holy KingdomHumanUnknown (the author says that on level alone she is above Gazef)

Personality

She dislikes using her head, is stubborn and impulsive, often forgets things, and gets a headache whenever politics or magic come up. What you see is what you get: she is fanatically loyal to Calca's ideals and firmly believes that whatever she does is justice. After losing Calca and her sister she changed drastically, becoming irritable and quick to anger and often taking it out on Neia.

Abilities

  • The Holy Kingdom's strongest paladin, whose strength has reached the Realm of Heroes; she is called the strongest captain in the order's history. The author says she is the third-ranked paladin, after a certain member of the Black Scripture and the goblins under Enri, and on level alone she is above Gazef
  • Holds Safarlisia, one of the Four Great Holy Swords (she does not usually carry it); she stabbed Jaldabaoth with it, leaving a wound that "stung" (Vol. 13)
  • Wears the silver full plate armor handed down through the order's captains, which is light, easy to move in, and capable of brief flight. She uses the skills Holy Strike and Evil Slayer, and can heal by laying her hand over a wound
  • Has mastered martial arts such as [Flow Acceleration], [Strong Strike], [Fortress], and one that sends a slash flying through the air (probably [Air Slash])

History

  • When Jaldabaoth attacked Kalinsha, she led 25 elite paladins in a charge against him but was driven back, and Holy Queen Calca and Remedios's younger sister Kelart went missing (Vol. 12)
  • She organized the Holy Kingdom Liberation Army and led a delegation to the Kingdom to seek aid, without success. She then went to the Sorcerer Kingdom and returned with the Sorcerer King himself, intending to have him and Jaldabaoth destroy each other (Vol. 12)
  • In the war of liberation she insisted on "letting no one die," gave in to demi-humans' threats against hostages, and clashed sharply with the ideals of Ainz and Neia. Jaldabaoth had used Calca as a bludgeon at Kalinsha (Vol. 12); later he burst into Loyts carrying her rotting corpse, and knocked Remedios flying when she charged him (Vol. 13)
  • After the battle of Loyts she declared that "the Sorcerer King and Jaldabaoth are in league." On learning that Calca and Kelart were dead, she fell into madness (Vols. 12–13)
  • After the northern and southern armies joined forces, she defeated the Scale Demon. After the war she recuperated at home and, under Demiurge's plan, was to be disposed of; Vol. 14 p. 23 mentions that she has died (Vols. 13–14)

Trivia

She and Calca reportedly became close friends because their birthdays fall close together (the 24th and 26th of the Middle Fire Month).

Relationships

  • Kelart Custodio: Her younger sister and head of the priesthood; one of the people Remedios would "just ask" when in doubt
  • Calca Bessarez: The Holy Queen she swore loyalty to, and her dear friend; their birthdays, two days apart, brought them together
  • Gustav Montagnés: Vice-captain of the Paladin Order and the third of the people who "will tell her if she asks"; effectively her "brain"
  • Isandro Sanchez: Vice-captain of the Paladin Order, "Peach" of the Nine Colors, and the second of the people who "will tell her if she asks"; went missing early in Vol. 12
  • Neia Baraja: Her squire, who became her punching bag after the war
  • Ainz Ooal Gown: An undead she loathes, and wants only to use so that he and Jaldabaoth destroy each other
  • Caspond Bessarez: The Royal Brother (actually a doppelgänger), who repeatedly handles her outbursts with mature composure
  • Esteban: A paladin who died in the battle of Loyts after she ordered him to challenge Nasrene
  • Sabicus: A paladin under her who died in the battle of Loyts
  • Franco: A paladin under her who died in the battle of Loyts
  • Galvan: A newly married paladin under her who died in the battle of Loyts
  • Ciriaco Naranjo: The Liberation Army's representative of the priests, who gradually came to see her as a liability (unverified)
