Personality
An overconfident, ambitious incompetent utterly lacking in self-awareness. Extremely proud, he is always baffled that others can't think of something so simple, yet his own ideas don't even rise to the level of armchair theory. He fantasizes about manipulating the Sorcerer Kingdom and marrying Albedo, and among readers has become a byword for "an idiot who thinks he's clever."

- No combat or political ability whatsoever
- Wears full plate armor gifted by Hilma; it carries defensive enchantments but no weight reduction, so it is very heavy for him
History
- Third son of a minor noble house; when his second brother died of illness and his eldest brother was killed in the Katze Plains massacre, he unexpectedly became heir and was overjoyed (Vol. 10)
- At the banquet for the Sorcerer Kingdom's envoy Albedo he approached her himself and, with Hilma arranging things, formed the New Faction of second and third sons (Vol. 10)
- After inheriting the house he recklessly reformed his domain, lowering food production and earning his subjects' contempt (Vol. 14)
- With Barons Delvin and Rokerlen he raided the Sorcerer Kingdom's food convoy bound for the Holy Kingdom, which led the Sorcerer Kingdom to declare war on the Kingdom and destroy it (Vol. 14)
- While he hid in his mansion, Albedo came in person and "dealt with" him together with the two barons and his subjects; Vol. 15 hints that he is still being "cared for" by Albedo in the Frozen Prison (Vols. 14–15)
Trivia
While the geniuses were baffled by his outrageous act, only Ainz, an ordinary man at heart, guessed the truth by thinking like one.
Relationships
- Albedo: The woman he wanted to marry; the mood was good when they entered together, so he thought he had a chance. In the end she took him away and dealt with him personally
- Hilma Cygnaeus: In his eyes, an excellent collaborator who provided connections (she is said to be unable to eat solid food because of trauma); in fact a pawn of Nazarick who called him "the Ultimate Fool"
- Viane Delvi: A member of the same New Faction who was dragged into the raid after leaking the food convoy information (in the anime he looks like a rat-man; CV Setsuji Sato)
- Eeg Rokirlen: A member of the same New Faction and Delvin's friend, ill at ease in noble society (in the anime a burly tough guy; CV Hiromichi Tezuka)
- Ainz Ooal Gown: The only one who guessed the truth, by thinking like an ordinary person, while the geniuses were confused
- Ramposa III: The king to whom Albedo declared war because of Philip's raid on the convoy
- Christopher Olson: The Eight Fingers smuggling-division merchant whose caravan was stopped by the "villagers" he led
