Vol. 14, sometime in Years 3–5 after the transfer, during the Sorcerer Kingdom's invasion: on learning that the Sorcerer Kingdom had already seized much of the country, Second Prince Zanac judged negotiation hopeless, confined his father, King Ramposa III, and took over the government.

After the Katze Plains massacre, Ramposa III, grief-stricken at the loss of Gazef, lost his composure, while Zanac began to display abilities he had long hidden.
After Philip seized the Sorcerer Kingdom's food convoy, Albedo came as an envoy; Ramposa offered his own head as an apology and was refused; the Sorcerer Kingdom declared war, with hostilities to begin at noon a month later.
The Sorcerer Kingdom used Marquis Raeven to block information, so news of the invasion reached the capital about a month late; Ramposa thought the declaration of war was a mere threat and prepared to negotiate, planning to send Zanac and Renner to the City-State Alliance as envoys to keep them safe.
When word of the Sorcerer Kingdom's attack arrived from the port city of E-Naeurl, Zanac judged that there was no room left for negotiation, confined Ramposa III, and took over the government with the Minister of Internal Affairs.
Zanac then marched out with an army of about 400,000 and was killed by rebel nobles in front of the lines; after the Kingdom's army was destroyed, Ramposa was released and began preparing to hand the crown and scepter to the Sorcerer King.
Other sources state that the coup was publicly explained away as "the King's illness" and many courtiers did not know; that Renner saw through it and used it to keep her brother in check; and that, though confined, Ramposa could still dine with his children (unverified).

Notes

Japanese sources record Ramposa's reign as 39 years and his age at his first appearance as 60; in the author's ranking of "how capable the kings are," he is 7th (no failures, but no great successes either).
