Gargantua
ガルガンチュア
Guardian of the 4th Floor (nominal) / strategic siege golemNazarick: Area Guardians & Other NPCsConstruct (golem)Unknown
Personality
As a golem, it has no self-awareness or personality and simply carries out the orders of whoever activates it. Activating it also takes considerable time (unverified).
Abilities
- A stone colossus over 30 m tall; a red light glows through the rock of its chest like a heartbeat
- In raw combat power alone, it is stronger than Shalltear
- Under the game's rules it can only be used for sieges, not for defending a base
- In the Web novel, it is teleported outside the base once activated
History
- Originally a siege golem provided by the game's rules. Not knowing where to put it, the guild sank it in the underground lake of the 4th Floor and gave it the title of "Floor Guardian" for good measure
- Mentioned during Shalltear's rebellion: in sheer strength it surpasses Shalltear, the strongest of the Guardians (Vol. 3 p. 178)
- Albedo activated it, and it hurled boulders at the lizardmen's lakeside to build a stage for Ainz's show of force. It has not appeared since (Vol. 4)
- [Web novel] Remained on standby throughout; the author said its turn would come only at the very end (Web novel setting)
Trivia
The name presumably comes from Rabelais's Gargantua and Pantagruel. "Gargantua" is a proper name the guild gave it; its official designation is simply "strategic siege golem." During the manga's magazine serialization it was once drawn as three units, which was corrected in the collected volume.
Relationships

- Lupusregina Beta: In the official 4-koma Ple Ple Pleiades 2, she says in Gargantua's underground lake room, "In this room you can go as wild as you like!" (bonus material)
