Nigredo

Personality
Before she can meet anyone, she must perform a grotesque skit: she throws away the doll in her arms, lunges at the visitor screaming "You stole my child!" and can talk normally only once she is handed a baby doll. After the skit she is actually quite normal and sometimes even gives her younger sister a thumbs-up. She dotes on infants, but once a child is past two, it is just a lump of meat to be disposed of in her eyes. She loathes her youngest sister, Rubedo, and is convinced that Rubedo will sooner or later bring calamity upon Nazarick.

- Uses reconnaissance and counter-reconnaissance spells such as [Clairvoyance], [Crystal Monitor], [Locate Object], [Counter Detect], and [False Data]

History
- Created by Tabula Smaragdina; the eldest of three sisters, the others being Albedo and Rubedo. In the YGGDRASIL era, guild members seeing her for the first time were so startled that they all attacked her at once
- Detected the location of the rebellious Shalltear for Albedo (cut from anime season 1) (Vol. 3)
- After Operation Gehenna, she and Pestonya defied Ainz's policy to protect children abducted from the Royal Capital, and both were confined as punishment (Vols. 6–7; revealed in Vol. 10 p. 37)
- [Movie bonus The Pleiades Day] She was released from confinement to run the orphanage (the confinement presumably lasted from the start of Vol. 7 to around Vol. 10)
- When the Sorcerer Kingdom set out to wipe out the entire Kingdom, she and Pestonya petitioned Ainz in person to change the operation, and Ainz adopted some of their suggestions. Vol. 14 also shows that the infants she had saved passed into Pestonya's care once they turned two (Vol. 14)
Trivia
Anime season 1 and the manga both cut her only appearance. She did not properly appear until season 4 episode 9, where her scissors were also drawn more than ten times larger than in the novel illustration.
Relationships
- Tabula Smaragdina: Creator; filled her room with rotting-flesh babies summoned with gold coins
- Albedo: Her younger sister (the second of the three), whom she sincerely adores; in Vol. 14, however, Albedo feels she cannot trust Nigredo unconditionallyunverified
- Rubedo: Her youngest sister, whom she calls "Spinel" and loathes
- Pestonya Shortcake Wanko: Disobeyed orders and was confined alongside her; the two now run the orphanage together
