Characters
Caspond Bessarez
カスポンド・ベサーレス
The Holy Queen's elder brother / nominal supreme commander of the Holy Kingdom Liberation ArmyRoble Holy KingdomHuman (the real one); the one seen in the story is an impersonating doppelgängerUnknown
Personality
The real Caspond is gentle and loves his people; unwilling to fight his sister for the throne, he yielded it to Calca, though he also worried that she was too idealistic. The doppelgänger impersonating him is calm, rational, and quick-witted, and handles the hot-tempered Remedios with adult composure.
Abilities
- The real Caspond studied priest-type divine magic but never uses it in the story
- The impersonator is an ordinary doppelgänger under Demiurge: it can copy abilities up to about level 40 and cannot use Legacy-class or higher items
- Doppelgängers cannot copy memories, so it reads others' impressions of the person with a mental skill and acts accordingly
History
- One of Calca's older brothers and the only blood relative she trusts (Vol. 12 p. 57); also one of the few royals Kelart does not resent
- The Liberation Army rescued an emaciated "Caspond" from a prison camp; he thanked Ainz and became the Liberation Army's nominal supreme commander (Vol. 12)
- Advocated holding Loyts to lure Jaldabaoth and have the Sorcerer King face him; after the war he negotiated with the southern nobles and became the de facto next Holy King
- The Vol. 13 epilogue revealed that this "Caspond" is a doppelgänger planted by Demiurge and that the real Caspond had already been replaced (his body was taken to Nazarick)
- In the second phase of Demiurge's plan, he is to stir up north–south conflict and trigger a civil war in the Holy Kingdom
Trivia
Sources note that, apart from the end of Vol. 12 and the Vol. 13 epilogue, every passage from his viewpoint is written as though the real Caspond were acting.
