Mission: Red Ogre Cried

れっど・おーが・くらいどミッション(泣いた赤鬼)

World & HistoryBattles & Events

Vol. 15, after the Kingdom's fall (estimated Years 3–5 after the transfer): to help Aura and Mare make friends of their own race, Ainz staged a "monster attacks the village, Aura saves it" play in a dark elf village in the Great Forest of Evasha (the Great Sea of Trees).

  • The operation's name comes from the Japanese fairy tale The Red Ogre Who Cried; Ainz had learned the name of this underhanded tactic, "Red Ogre Cried Mission," from a guild member back in the game, without actually knowing its source, and just pretended to understand
  • Mare had read The Red Ogre Who Cried and guessed what the operation involved right away
  • Background: under the pretext of a paid vacation, Ainz took the twins to the great forest; they first slipped into the elven capital and abducted an elf man to gather information, then restored him afterward (what they learned was the rough location of the dark elf village: southeast of the capital, near great trees known as the "Three Trees")
  • Aura tamed an Ankyloursus Lord, the royal species of armored bear, and first killed an armored bear near the village
  • The Ankyloursus Lord burst into the village square and nearly ate the first-rate ranger Blueberry Egnia before Aura appeared and drove it off; Blueberry fell for Aura at first sight
  • The hunting chief Apple then took Aura to see the elders, and the village accepted her as its "savior"; afterward, Plum Ganen became the village's most fervent Aura devotee
  • Three days later, Ainz, calling himself "Ain Bell Fior," and Mare, dressed as a boy, entered the village as Aura's uncle and younger brother

Notes

Although the operation succeeded in getting them into the village, the Japanese sources' timeline records that the dark elf children never actually became the twins' friends.
