Imperial Arena

闘技場(バハルス帝国)

World & HistoryGeography & Nations

The state-run grand arena in Arwintar, capital of the Baharuth Empire, and the commoners' favorite entertainment; its champion holds the title of "Martial Lord." In Vol. 10, Ainz fought the eighth Martial Lord, Go Gin, here.

  • Packed almost every day, with betting on the matches; promoters rent the venue for events, the most popular being the "tournaments," where fighters can die (Vol. 7)
  • VIP rooms come in three kinds: for sponsors, for high nobility, and for the Emperor (Vol. 10)
  • Matches are not always fair fights: some shows have magical beasts slaughter demi-human slaves (Web novel "Academy" arc); adventurer teams are popular entrants because their magic is flashy (Vol. 10)
  • An adventurer team once won using flight and ranged attacks, which left the crowd cold; flight and teleportation magic have been banned in the arena ever since
  • Losers used to be executed, but the practice was abolished after a gladiator who had been spared eventually became Martial Lord
  • Past Martial Lords: the first and second died in the arena; then came the third, "Sword Demon"; the fourth, "Weak Lord"; the fifth, "Four Lightning Whip"; the sixth, "White Eyebrows"; the seventh, "Rot Lord" Kullervo Palantynen; and the eighth, Go Gin (a war troll)
  • The most powerful promoter is Osk, who brought Go Gin to the arena while the troll was training on the frontier; the undefeated genius swordsman Erya also fights here

Notes

When the worker Hekkeran first saw Nazarick's amphitheater, he felt it was "in no way inferior to the Empire's."
