Death Penalty and Resurrection

死亡と蘇生(デスペナルティ)

World & HistoryBasics

In YGGDRASIL, death costs 5 levels and drops equipment; in the New World after the transfer, resurrection likewise involves a "loss of life force," and NPCs revived with guild funds lose several days of memory.

  • Game: death costs 5 levels and randomly drops 1 piece of equipment (high-difficulty dungeons may drop 2, favoring valuable ones); by the setting, characters at level 5 or below would be "annihilated," but a special blessing stops them at level 1 (Vol. 1)
  • Resurrection magic softens the level loss at the cost of gold coins, gems, and the like; resurrection wands only use up charges; cash items can reduce the penalty to a small loss of experience
  • Four respawn options: on the spot, at the dungeon entrance, at a nearby town's temple, or at the guild base; if an enemy camps the respawn point, the player gets spawn-killed
  • Players used the death penalty as a way to rebuild characters; level loss strips the most recently gained race or class first, along with that level's skills
  • NPCs: the guild can revive them without penalty by paying gold according to their level; a Lv100 NPC costs 500 million YGGDRASIL gold coins (Vol. 3)
  • New World: locals also lose life force when revived, and adventurers of iron rank or below almost always turn to ash under [Raise Dead]; the dead can refuse resurrection; resurrection acts on the soul; those who died of old age probably cannot be revived; some Wild Magic can revive without penalty
  • After the transfer, NPC resurrection causes memory loss: Shalltear, revived with guild funds in Vol. 3, lost about 5 days of memory, and the author's Twitter gives her age as "500 years minus a few days"
