Personality
Intelligent and responsible; his elder brother even says he should be the chieftain. Calm and far-sighted, able to make ruthless decisions for the greater good (he once viewed the war as a way to reduce the population and survive a food shortage). At the same time he is straightforward and hot-blooded, falling for Crusch at first sight and proposing on the spot.
Abilities
- Wields Frost Pain, an ice-element magic sword and one of the Four Treasures of the lizardmen
- Uses martial arts (which ones is unknown; the Web novel gives [Fortress], [Whirlwind], [Eyes in the Back], and others); was appointed to teach Hamsuke to fight in armor and use martial arts
- According to the author, he is stronger than Climb but weaker than adamantite-rank fighters such as Brain
- Learned fish farming on his travels and brought it back to his tribe; presumably received an adamantite chain shirt as a gift for the birth of his child
History
- A "Traveler" from the Green Claw Tribe. Frost Pain, one of the Four Treasures, originally belonged to the Sharp Edge Tribe; after that tribe's defeat the Green Claw Tribe claimed it, and it passed to him as the one who had defeated the Sharp Edge chieftain (Japanese wiki timeline, post-1389: defeated the Sharp Edge chieftain and obtained Frost Pain). He brought the fish farming he had learned on his travels back to his tribe (background, Vol. 4)
- After Nazarick declared war, he proposed uniting the tribes and won over Crusch, acting chieftain of the Red Eye Tribe, and Zenberu, chieftain of the Dragon Tusk Tribe. With his companions he then killed the Elder Lich Iguva=41 (Vol. 4)
- Fought Cocytus to the death in the decisive battle. Having earned Cocytus's respect, he was resurrected and from then on served Ainz loyally
- Trained at Nazarick and served as Hamsuke's martial arts instructor (Vol. 7)
- Now married to Crusch, with a white-scaled child of unknown sex (some say a boy, unverified). When Ainz asked whether he would move to the human lands, he said he was uneasy about taking his wife and child to a big city (Vol. 11)
Trivia
After the anime aired, many viewers misheard his name as "Zariusu" (ザリウス) because the "ryu" sound is easily swallowed.
