Personality
Simple, straightforward, and grateful. She is utterly loyal to her "liege" Ainz and speaks in an archaic samurai style ("de gozaru"). She has a warrior's temperament: she loves battle and will praise an enemy's strengths, but an enemy is an enemy, and she shows no mercy. She gets bashful when her head is patted, and her wish is to find her own kind and have offspring.
Abilities
- Controls a snake-like tail over 20 m long at will; by raising its scales she adds slashing damage to her blows
- Her fur is normally soft but hardens when she is struck or ready for battle; short of a direct hit, it can partly deflect even a sword made by Ainz
- Has about eight markings on her body, matching the number of spells she can use, such as [Charm Species] (used to catch animals in the manga) and [Blindness]. She has no talent at all as a magic caster, so opponents resist them easily
- Learned the martial art [Slashing Strike] from the lizardmen and was later able to wear prototype armor made in Nazarick
- Keeps the Orb of Death in her cheek pouch and wears an item lent by Ainz that nullifies mind control
History
- Ruled the southern Great Forest of Tob for about 200 years. She spared an intruding warrior because he called her "Wise King of the Forest," and the title spread from there. Her presence kept monsters away from the Carne Village area (Vols. 2, 8, and 10)
- Aura lured her out and Momon defeated her. Her plea, "I've always been alone and want to meet my kin," moved Ainz, who named her "Hamsuke" and made her his mount (Vol. 2)
- Learned a martial art ([Slashing Strike]) in a growth experiment. As the test opponent for her martial arts, she killed Erya Uzruth of the worker team "Tenmu" in one blow; thanks to her warrior temperament, Erya's elf slaves survived (Vol. 7)
- After the founding of the Sorcerer Kingdom, she lived in a stable in E-Rantel and spent all day eating and sleeping alongside a Death Knight. Ainz scolded her but promised to help find her kin (Vol. 10)
- [Bonus novel The Phantom Ship of Katze Plains] Went with Team Darkness to investigate the Katze Plains and easily defeated a Skeletal Dragon
Trivia
A scrapped setting by the author made Hamsuke's parents giant creatures over a kilometer long that lived in the Great Rift of the Dwarf Kingdom.
