Races & CreaturesNotable Monsters & Summons
Monsters of level 90+ summoned by the super-tier spell [Iä Shub-Niggurath] according to the number of people it kills; in Vol. 9 they trampled the Kingdom's army on the Katze Plains.
- Summoning even one normally counts as a success, and a second is very hard; Ainz summoned 5 with 70,000 deaths (50,000 in the Web novel).
- Summoning process: a jet-black fruit appears in the air, swells, falls, and bursts; black slime covers the corpses, tentacles sprout, and the Dark Young emerge with adorable goat-like bleats.
- Shaped like a turnip and about 10 m tall excluding tentacles (about 5 m in the Web novel), with countless black tentacles on top, many drooling mouths split open across the mass of flesh, and five goat-hoofed legs below.
- They have no powerful skills but outstanding durability.
- Ainz ordered that 4 people be spared; the Dark Young trampled the rest of the Kingdom's army at will.
- They act on orders; in the light novels, they returned straight to the Empire's camp after Ainz finished his duel with Gazef and did not kill Marquis Raeven (Vol. 9 p. 360)
- In the Web novel, the summoning has a time limit, and the number summoned is calculated from the total levels of the dead (Web "Massacre-3")
- In the side story, [Iä Shub-Niggurath] combined with "The Goal of All Life is Death" instantly killed over 400,000 people and likewise summoned 5
Notes
The anime enlarged them to about 80 m (estimated from the soldiers at their feet). The Web novel's Dark Young have some self-awareness and killed Marquis Raeven, who was commanding the army.
