Crystals dropped by defeated monsters that grant abilities when set into equipment; they are the core of YGGDRASIL's custom gear.
- Equipment combines data crystals and materials with an appearance and name designed by the player, so nearly all of it is one-of-a-kind custom gear
- The Spuit Lance is a specialized example built entirely from "drain damage to heal" crystals
- "Quick-change" crystals allow instant outfit changes (Narberal uses one to switch to her maid outfit; Ainz used one to switch to World Champion armor)
- A later update let players change an item's appearance while keeping its performance; gear made with [Create Greater Item] also qualifies
- YGGDRASIL-made gear resizes automatically even without data crystals; New World gear does not unless enchanted
- An item's data capacity is set by the metal's value, the amount used, and the crafter's skill, and determines how many crystals can be set; in theory, filling it with attack crystals would make the strongest weapon, but such a weapon becomes slow and hard to handle (Vol. 11, BD bonus novel)
- Divine class requires multiple data crystals called "high-rare drops" plus a vessel of ultra-rare metal; the Treasury stores crafting data crystals as their own category
