Great Migration

大移動

World & HistoryBattles & Events

Over three hundred years ago (before the story begins), the dark elves who had ruled the Great Forest of Tob moved south to the Great Forest of Evasha (the Great Sea of Trees) because of the demonic tree Zy'tl Q'ae; the dark elves call this the "Great Migration."

  • The dark elves were once regarded as the rulers of the Great Forest of Tob; the Japanese timeline places the migration "over 300 years ago" and attributes it to their inability to deal with the demonic tree Zy'tl Q'ae.
  • The dark elves call this migration the "Great Migration"; at its center was the Blueberry house, one of the "Thirteen Founding Houses," from which Blueberry Egnia of Vols. 15–16 comes.
  • Since the dark elves moved into the Great Sea of Trees, the elves have regarded them as "quite distant relatives," but the two races have almost no contact; even residents of the elven capital do not know what the dark elves think of them.
  • Dark elf villages use beast-repelling methods learned from the treants and others of the Great Forest of Tob (planting strong-smelling herbs, scattering repellents, and druid magic) and deliberately do not share them with the elves, which makes them safer than elf villages.
  • According to the Japanese timeline, the dark elf village's three elders were born over 300 years ago; by the time Aura visited in Vol. 15, the "Great Migration" was an old story only the elders remembered (unverified).
  • The dryad Pinison once told Aura, "I got along well with your close kin," and the Demon Snake of the West also knows that the dark elves fled the Great Forest of Tob.
  • According to the Japanese wiki, the "Great Migration" apparently used the "Trail of the Fey"; today most dark elves have lost the "Fairy Blessing."

Notes

The Great Forest of Evasha came to be called the "Great Sea of Trees" because Ainz, looking down from thousands of meters up, said, "Great Forest? The Sorcerer Kingdom calls it the Great Sea of Trees" (Vol. 15).
